Sciensano’s Epidemiology of infectious diseases service:
- Monitors the epidemiological situation: we work in close collaboration with the National Reference Laboratory (CHU Liège), to describe trends in the number of echinococcosis cases that is yearly detected.
- Describes cases: we work in close collaboration with the National Reference Laboratory (CHU Liège) to describe the echinococcosis cases in terms of responsible pathogen, age, gender, geographical location, country of infection and severity.
- Reports to Europe: we annually report data of the echinococcosis cases to the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC).
