Sciensano & Health inequality

Last updated on 21-12-2023 by Lieke Vervoort

Sciensano is committed to guaranteeing a qualitative health for everyone. Our priority is to ensure that the population remains healthy as long as possible. Improving people’s health involves the identification and monitoring of diseases over time. One of the key research strategies is to describe health inequalities in the occurrence of diseases, the disease progression, mortality, (healthy) life expectancy, health behaviour and health care access in Belgium. Our teams set out to understand why health inequalities occur and which determinants of health play a role (in)directly. Building on the scientific evidence gathered, policy recommendations are developed to meet the actual needs of the citizens. Sciensano also commits itself to communicate trustworthy information regarding health inequalities in a clear manner to all citizens.
