Sciensano coordinates various networks in order to collect data and monitor the epidemiology of iGAS infections. This data is then collated and interpreted, taking into account the international context, input from experts in the field and the most recent scientific literature.
If there is a potential threat to public health (such as a sharp increase in the number of iGAS-infections, as there was at the end of 2022) Sciensano can, at the request of the authorities, convene a meeting of the Risk Assessment Group to conduct a risk analysis and make recommendations.
