Reported here are the results of a study designed to determine the correlation between hepatitis C virus (HCV) RNA positivity in serum and the detection of antibodies against HCV in oral fluid by testing paired serum/oral fluid samples. For the 85 serum samples found positive for antibodies against HCV, using a screening assay and a confirmation assay, 70 of the corresponding oral fluid samples tested positive for HCV antibodies using a previously modified screening assay.
