Genital herpes

The use of a condom is essential to protect yourself and your partners against STDs. If you have any concerns, you should have an STD screening test. In the event of an infection, follow the treatment correctly and inform your sexual partners.

What is genital herpes?

Herpes is a sexually transmitted diseases (STD) caused by the Herpes simplex virus.

It affects women in particular.

There are 2 sub-types of the Herpes simplex virus:

  • oral herpes (Herpes simplex virus type 1)
  • genital herpes (Herpes simplex virus type 2).

Once you are infected with herpes you are a carrier for life.

The illness often progresses to outbreaks (caused by fatigue, stress, exposure to the sun, immunodepression, etc.).

Since 2000, the network of clinicians has been collecting information on the high-risk behaviour of patients suffering from an STD including genital herpes.
