Symptoms

The use of a condom is essential to protect yourself and your partners against STDs. If you have any concerns, you should have an STD screening test. In the event of an infection, follow the treatment correctly and inform your sexual partners.

What are the symptoms of genital herpes?

The symptoms can appear from 2 to 20 days after contamination:

  • small, painful, blister-like spots on the genital organs, anus or the mouth
  • itching
  • pain when urinating.

When a person is infected, symptoms can lie dormant but once infected you are a carrier for life.

The symptoms mainly appear during times of stress, fatigue or when another illness is contracted.

Since 2000, the network of clinicians has been collecting information on the high-risk behaviour of patients suffering from an STD including genital herpes.
