Information for health professionals

Extensive information relating to the disease can be found in the guidelines from the Flemish Community and the guidelines from the French Community. These documents also contain more information about the duty of notification that applies to (some) iGAS infections.

It is also recommended to send every invasive isolate to the National Reference Centre in order to facilitate effective epidemiological and genomic monitoring.

In January 2023, a multidisciplinary risk assessment was conducted due to a significant increase in the incidence of iGAS infections.

Sciensano monitors the epidemiology of iGAS infections in Belgium and contributes data to international scientific studies.
