Enterovirus PCR

Test description

  • Enterovirus PCR: RNA extraction by easyMAG followed by in-house real-time PCR with Quantstudio Dx. 
  • Purpose of the assay. 
  • Detection of enterovirus in cerebrospinal fluid and other clinically relevant fluids.

Criteria for performing this test in the context of reference activities  

Only in cases of clinically relevant samples:

  • Suspicion of poliovirus infection
  • Suspicion of enterovirus epidemic (=different epidemiologically linked clinical cases)
  • Epidemiological surveillance

Instructions for samples 

Storage:

  • Maximum 24 hours at room temperature
  • Maximum 10 days at 2-8°C
  • More than 10 days: freeze at-20°C/-70°C

Transport:

  • Send refrigerated (2-8°C) with a maximum transport time of 48 h
  • For transport longer than 48 h, ship frozen on dry ice.

Unacceptable requests 

 

  • Insufficient sample
  • Incorrect transport or storage
  • Application form not fully completed
  • Sample is not suitable for analysis

Turn around time (and frequency of analysis) 

  • Frequency of analysis: every working day , during working hours
  • Response time: < 8 h

Reporting of test results

Results will be sent via e-mail and/or fax according to the requesting laboratory or physician’s wishes.
