Control of e-cigarettes

Electronic cigarettes are a growing market worldwide and vaping becomes increasingly popular, especially with young people. Though a lot of uncertainties exist concerning the safety and the long time effects of vaping on the consumers health. In Belgium the e-cigarettes and e-liquids are governed by a Royal Decree adopted in February 2017. Sciensano conducts several analyses for governmental institutions to check the compliance of the products on the Belgian market to the legislation. These analyses focus on the nicotine content, the presence of prohibited additives and some flavours, known to represent a potential health threat.
