Sciensano investigates the presence and concentrations of a wide range of PFAS, including perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA), perfluorooctane sulfonate (PFOS), perfluorononitrile (PFNA) and perfluorhexane sulfonic acid (PFHxS) in food. We provide the Belgian government with information on:
- the presence of PFAS in food
- the exposure of the Belgian population to PFAS through food.
Moreover, we identify the sources of PFAS contamination in the food chain, e.g. with regard to the contribution of food contact materials.
