Numbers

Dourine is found in Southern and Eastern Africa, the Middle East and sporadically in South America. Europe had been declared free since 1996, but in May 2011, several outbreaks were detected in Italy. Russia is the country with the highest number of cases each year. Belgium has not identified any cases.

Sciensano is recognised as the Belgian National Reference Laboratory (NRL) for dourine.
