Ms Anne Marie Dierick

Scientist

Anne Marie Dierick graduated in July 1982 as a doctor in medicine, surgery and obstetrics at the University of Ghent. From 1982 to 1987 she was an assistant in training at the department of Anatomic Pathology, then resident from Sept. 1987 until May 1993. In July 1993 she started a laboratory of Anatomic Pathology at the Klina Hospital in Antwerp, where she worked until December 2010.  After a year of being a free resident in the department of Anatomic Pathology of the University Hospital Ghent from January 2011 until December 2011 she started in January 2012 as a surgical pathologist at the Sint Elisabeth Hospital in Zottegem until June 2013 and afterwards until the end of October 2015 at the Hospital Alma in Eeklo. In November 2015 she began working as a scientist at the Scientific Institute of Public Health (the predecessor of Sciensano) at the section “Quality of Medical Laboratories”. She is currently responsible for the surveillance of the licenses of the laboratories of Anatomic Pathology. A license can only be granted and retained if all legal provisions as described in the Royal Decree of 5 December 2011 are complied with. Within the framework of these licensing, inspections can be carried out in the laboratories of Anatomic Pathology in order to evaluate the implementation of the quality system in routine practice.  Moreover, the results of the external quality assessment (EQA) organized by the section “Quality of Laboratories” of Sciensano are to be followed up in order to avoid errors which may have a clinical impact on the patient’s diagnosis. In addition, she is also responsible for organizing EQA programs and evaluating the results. Furthermore, as member of the competent authority, she observes audits performed by the Belgian Accreditation Institution (BELAC). She’s also member of the Commission of Anatomic Pathology as deputy secretary. This advisory Commission has been installed by the Royal Decree of 5 December 2011 to advice the Minister of Public Health on issues related to the license of laboratories of Anatomic Pathology and on subjects related to Anatomic Pathology in general.
