In short

No up-to-date and complete overview of the cancer situation in Belgium has been available up to now.

For this reason the Foundation against Cancer, in its capacity as a national and independent reference organization, initiated and financed an objective analysis of the cancer situation in Belgium, in close collaboration with Sciensano’s Cancer Center, the Belgian Cancer Registry Foundation, the College of Oncology, 52 institutions and over 622 patients. This barometer makes it possible to better define the priorities for fighting cancer on all fronts.

Project description

On the initiative of the Foundation Against Cancer, Sciensano’s Cancer Center is working on the development of a Belgian cancer barometer in collaboration with the Foundation, the College of Oncology and the Cancer Registry .
The objective is to draw up an epidemiological and political situational analysis, as well as formulate recommendations for actions to bridge the gaps and ensure a better quality of care and life.

From July 2020 to March 2021, literature reviews, thematic working groups and a range of consultations will be organized to enable the different actors’ perspectives to be shared. Where relevant, the Belgian situation will also be compared against international standards.

Wide consultation will be organized to validate the final report, so that all of the actors in Belgium can make a contribution and approve this report.
